Santomero A. M., D. F. Babbel, (1997), 'Financial risk management by insurers: an analysis of the process'. The Journal of risk and insurance. 64 (2): p. 231-270
On-site visits to financial service firms were conducted to review and evaluate their risk management systems. In the insurance sector, this evaluation covered prominent life/health and property-liability insurers, both in the United States and abroad. The information obtained covered both the philosophy and the practice of financial risk management. This article outines the results of this investigation. It reports the state of risk management techniques in the industry. It reports the standard of practice and evaluates how and why it is conducted in the particular way chosen. In addition, critiques are offered where appropriate. We discuss the problems which the industry finds most difficult to address, shortcomings of the current methodology used to analyze risk, and the elements that are missing in the current procedures of risk management.

Ulrich Hess, Kaspar Richter, Andrea Stoppa, 'Weather Risk Management for agricolture and agri-business in developing countries' . IFC, World Bank and Procom Agr, Rome
Risk is a pervasive characteristic of life in developing countries, especially in
rural areas. The economies depend heavily on weather conditions, and
experience frequent weather hazards, such as drought, floods and
windstorms. These factors typically affect most households and companies in the
same area at the same time. Furthermore, as households and companies typically
have a low asset base and little access to well developed insurance and credit
markets, they are financially ill-equipped to deal with weather shocks. As a result,
their weather risk management (WRM) is inefficient resulting in negative
implications for economic and social development. New WRM insurance
instruments, like area-based weather indices, provide a viable alternative to
traditional insurance instruments, and offer real advantages to households,
companies and governments in developing countries.

italiano.
rilevanti.
